Full House for Premier’s College Tour in London

27 October 2008

About 150 people attended the Premier’s College Tour event in London Saturday night uniting a cross section of young Bermudians living and studying in the United Kingdom.

They heard an address from the Premier, participated in a question and answer session on Government initiatives and networked with a handful of employers including the Government of Bermuda, Bermuda Electric Light Company, Butterfield Bank and Appleby.

“I thought the evening was well attended and very productive,” Premier Dr. Ewart F. Brown said. “The students were very engaged, very aware of what’s happening back in Bermuda and very interested in how Government is tackling the issues of the day. I think that level of interest bodes well for our overall objective which is to attract these bright minds back home to Bermuda where they can make a significant contribution to the workforce.”

Housing, combating anti-social behaviour and independence were among the issues discussed during the Premier’s speech and Q & A which lasted about 90 minutes.

Kamal Worrell, 28, was one of the students to attend. He’s studying law at the University of Buckingham. He said: “Aside from the opportunity to network with fellow students as well as representatives from the public and private sectors, the insight generated from the question and answer session, the Bermudian entertainment, good food and a pleasant environment all combined to make for a memorable evening.

“The evening was, in my opinion, a success indeed.”

The London stop on the College Tour included a networking reception and dinner at The Dorchester. Afterward Bermudian performers entertained.

The next stop on the Premier’s College Tour is Bermuda College.
