'It's Not About Independence'
13 June 2007 | Bermuda Sun
Premier Ewart Brown yesterday ruled out suggestions that the next election will be fought on independence.
Speaking exclusively to the Bermuda Sun, he said: "Nothing about the next election will significantly alter the independence issue."
He moved to set the record straight after threatening to suspend relations with Governor Sir John Vereker last week.
The two sides have since issued a statement saying they are committed to working together.
The Progressive Labour Party is pro-independence and two years ago appointed a commission to investigate the requirements and ramifications of breaking away from Britain.
But the party knows independence can only be achieved if the majority of people want it - and right now they don't. MORE! ยป
