Yes, Bill Zuill, Your Sister Paper Did Slander PLP Ministers
UBP Leader, er, "newspaper man" Bill Zuill is once again misleading the people of Bermuda. He lied to the Bermudian people by putting words in Minister Derrick Burgess' mouth and rejecting Minister Burgess' claim that Bermuda Press Ltd. newspapers accused ministers of receiving payments from contractors involved in the Police/court building project.
Here's the proof, from the Royal Gazette's self described "sister paper," the Mid-Ocean News:
The court building controversy looks set to continue as the Auditor General yesterday refused to deny that the Police are now investigating the identity and involvement of the beneficiaries of a trust linked to the project.
It is understood that two cheques issued to Cabinet Ministers by construction executives involved in the controversial project have been handed over to Police by the Auditor General's office.
And, that's not all. An erroneous article also claimed that the Royal Gazette's sister paper "incorrectly stated that Paragon Trust Ltd. was beneficially owned by a number of Cabinet Ministers and their relatives."
Contrary to Mr. Zuill's claim, The Royal Gazette's sister paper was indeed asked to substantiate their claims. They declined.
We can already predict Mr. Zuill's response. He's going to throw the Mid-Ocean under the bus. But, the deception is Mr. Zuill's. The fact is, Minister Burgess never singled out The Royal Gazette. When he spoke, he mentioned both papers in the same sentence, newspapers housed in The Royal Gazette's building and Bermuda Press Ltd. newspapers. See the evidence for yourself here and here
The Royal Gazette's sister paper is indeed directly responsible for spreading lies about PLP Ministers. And, The Royal Gazette itself piled on with additional accusations and innuendo. Now, Bill Zuill is cynically misleading the people of Bermuda. As a supposedly "impartial" newsman, he should be ashamed of himself.
