Charlie Swan Praises 30 Years of UBP Government, Calls PLP's 1998 Win an Obama Moment
Charlie Swan is a man of contradictions - and, not in a good way.
In his Royal Gazette profile, Charlie Swan praised the 30 years the UBP held power. You know, those good old days when the aristocratic rich old boys club had absolute power in Bermuda. The days when Government ran Bermuda like a country club and looked the other way instead of confronting discrimination. We sincerely hope that's not what Charlie meant when he said that a "marketing campaign" - not reality - was somehow responsible for tarnishing the reputation of "30 years of the good UBP."
After praising the UBP's 30 years of aristocratic rule, Charlie acknowledged that he voted for the PLP in 1998 and called that historic win an "Obama moment" for Bermuda. We agree. Our door is open and we look forward to one day welcoming Charlie Swan back into the PLP family. Until then, we're confident that voters of Southampton West Central will vote for a strong, effective rising star like Marc Bean and not for a confused, quiet and ineffective politician like Charlie Swan.
