Fullfilling the Destiny: Celebrating 10 Historic Years
Following the successful completion of the Annual Delegates' Conference of the PLP its members and supporters look forward to celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the historic 1998 election victory. A series of events are planned which culminate in a Gala Black-tie Banquet on November 15th.
Party officials have asked each of their branches to provide a service or act of kindness for a senior in their constituencies on November 1st. This is in recognition of the loyalty and support the party received since its inception when success at the polls almost seemed like an impossible dream.
On November 8th the PLP will embrace the whole family at a fun-filled Block Party on Court Street with games, entertainment, and vendors.
On November 9th, the actual date of the l998 victory, the Party members will attend the St. Paul's A.M.E.Church to give thanks for the past and seek guidance for the future. Following the service they will go to the B.I.U where lunch will be served.
After refreshments the group will go to the Liberty Theatre to view a video presentation highlighting memorable moments and hearing the perspectives of the leaders relating to the decade.
The keynote speaker for the November 15th Banquet at Southampton Princess is Congressman George Kenneth (G.K.) Butterfield who represents the 1st district of North Carolina in the U. S. Congress. He is regarded as one who will play a pivotal role in the Congress, Rep. Butterfield is the son of a Bermudian dentist who emigrated to the U.S. and was also a successful politician. He maintains contact with his relatives here and retains a deep affection for the island and her people.
