PLP Offers Solutions, UBP Offers Attacks
There's one thing that's crystal clear about the UBP's Reply to the Throne Speech: their party has no ideas and no vision for this country. Compare the speeches. The PLP Government's Throne Speech is chock full of specific ideas and policies for building a better Bermuda. There's not a single attack against the opposition in our speech. Ours outlines, in great detail, a progressive vision for Bermuda's future.
The UBP's response is sad and shows that their party has no ideas. All they can do is attack the PLP and lie about our record. Their speech was highly political and full of vitriol and anger. Ours was focused squarely on Bermuda and Bermudians - without a single mention of the many failures of the most divided and weak opposition in Bermuda's history.
After reading both speeches, it's clear that the PLP is the party of ideas and is on the high road.
The UBP had an opportunity to use their Throne Speech response to outline their agenda and advance positive ideas for improving Bermuda. They didn't. Instead, they chose to take the low road and engage in the worst kind of attack politics.
The fact that all they can do is attack is yet another indication that their party is adrift. It's clear that there's no ideological agreement within the UBP - only a desire to return to the corrupt, old, pre-1998 Bermuda. It's sad that the UBP squandered an opportunity to outline their vision for Bermuda and instead focused on making cheap political attacks.
